Trout in the Classroom
Trout in the Classroom is a youth oriented program that brings Conservation, Education, and the Trout Unlimited Mission together in schools around the country and connects children to their watershed. Classes raise trout in the classroom from eggs to fingerlings and then place them in a stream environment, while learning about the life history of trout and the requirements of trout survival.
Why is this important? Trout are an indicator species, they tell us about the environment within a watershed, its health, its chemistry, and its biology. Most importantly it tells us if the watershed is improving or whether it is declining in quality. It also tells us if we are generally good stewarts of our local environment.
